Feeding my dog

Feeding your dog correctly is probably the single most important factor that contributes to its health.

Wild dogs eat carrion, small prey and some vegetation and as dogs were slowly domesticated by early people they scavenged from rubbish dumps in villages and their diet was often nutritionally poor.

The majority of dogs continued to be fed on waste and scraps until the 1950s when the first commercially prepared dog food were produced. But these diets were based on what we thought the dog would like and often not nutritionally balanced.

Advances in the understanding of canine nutrition have allowed the development of diets for each stage of your dog’s life, from a puppy to an andult to an old dog. Diets have recently been refined further to meet the requirements of different breeds of dog, particularly the larger breeds.

Feeding a diet that matches the requirements of your pup will help ensure normal growth and development, and will establish good feeding habits for the rest of your pet’s life.

Isabelle Vets stock a wide range of foods that will care for all canine palates whilst optimising growth and health. These are premium quality, carefully formulated pet foods with a range of diets to suit small to large, young to old, athletic to lazy dogs. Ask your vet or one of our Pet Health Care Advisors for information on which diet would suit your dog.
