Veterinary nursing

The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) is an organisation that Veterinary Nurses and others can join and was set up to promote animal health and welfare through the ongoing development of professional excellence in veterinary nursing.

The BVNA was first formed in 1965 and is the national representative body for veterinary nurses in the UK.The BVNA is made up of 11 Council members from around the UK and the head office is based in Harlow, Essex, UK.

It is possible for either fully qualified Veterinary Nurses (VNs or RVNs), Student Veterinary nurses (SVNs) and support staff such as Veterinary Receptionists and Administrators to also be members of the British Veterinary Nursing Association. 


Benefits of being a member of the BVNA:

  • Represents members of the veterinary nursing profession
  • Develops, provides and monitors continuing professional development (CPD) for it's members
  • Provides education and training for associated individuals of the veterinary profession 
  • Promotes the veterinary nursing profession and works proactively with other organisations and professions to shape its future development
  • Disseminates advice and guidance to its members
